Internet / Mail SCAMS

circulating within Collier Township

 

The Collier Township Police Department has received complaints from Township residents about an internet/mail scam, in which the residents have received communications from scam artists.  This particular scam appears to be very sophisticated, and the mailing is accompanied by a useless counterfeit check.  This type of scam was featured on WPXI this week by investigative reporter Renee Kaminski, and there is a video available under the, "Consumer Reports" section on WPXI.com.

 

The Collier Township Police would encourage anyone receiving similar communications requesting money or personal information that residents not respond.  Remeber, if it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is a SCAM!!!

Free Smoke Alarms for Allegheny County Homeowners

The Allegheny County Health Department has a free smoke alarm program for owner-occupied homes which have no smoke alarms or ones too old to be reliable.

The program, funded by the PA Department of Health, provides and installs a maximum of two battery-operated smoke alarms in an owner-occupied home.
